3. What Data We Collect and Why

3.1. Website visitors. When you browse jvs.law, we collect limited technical data through cookies and similar technologies, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referral source. We use this data to operate the website securely, understand how our content is used, and improve it. See Section 7 (Cookies and Analytics) for details.

3.2. Individuals who contact us. When you submit a contact form, request a consultation, or email us, we collect the data you provide: name, email address, phone number, and the content of your message. We use this data to respond to your inquiry, assess whether we can act for you (including a conflict-of-interest check), and maintain business correspondence. 3.3. Newsletter subscribers. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and use it solely to send you our legal updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.

3.4. Data received in the course of providing legal services. In acting for our clients, we may receive personal data relating to third parties (counterparties, witnesses, officials, employees of parties to a matter). Such data is processed strictly for the purpose of providing legal assistance under the engagement, on the legal basis of performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, legitimate interests, and the performance of professional duties, as applicable, and is additionally protected by attorney-client privilege under the Law of Ukraine “On the Bar and Practice of Law” No. 5076-VI.

We retain personal data no longer than necessary for the purposes described above: correspondence relating to inquiries that do not result in an engagement — up to 1 year; client files and related data — for as long as necessary to comply with applicable legal, regulatory, professional and ethical obligations, including the rules governing attorney-client files, limitation periods, and the defence of legal claims; newsletter data — until you unsubscribe; analytics data — per the retention settings of Google Analytics (14 months).

We do not sell personal data and do not share it with third parties for their marketing. Personal data may be transferred outside Ukraine and, where applicable, outside the European Economic Area, including to countries that do not provide an equivalent level of data protection. Where required, such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms. Subject to applicable law, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request its rectification or erasure; restrict or object to its processing; withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing); receive your data in a portable format; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman); in the EU/EEA, your local data protection authority.

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS), access controls, and hosting within the EU. Data received within an attorney engagement is additionally protected by the regime of attorney-client privilege established by Ukrainian law.
